about the property
This beautiful home is more than just a new build. It started out as a 1940's train depot in New Braunfels, TX. The prior owners relocated it onto the 5 acre Castroville property in the early 2000s. They intended to live in it temporarily while they built their dream house, but alas, as life has a way of doing sometimes, plans changed and the time ran short for them. The Ballew family purchased the property in 2021 and a new dream commenced.
With their background in home building and design, the reno/addition that ensued was a years- long, painstaking labor of love that took the 1200 sq ft one-room metal building down to the studs and foundation and transformed it into 4100 sq ft of comfortable luxury. With a massive insulated concrete form addition and brass everything, every inch of the home was meticulously planned and each detail poured over - from the custom cabinetry to outlet locations, all of it was uber intentional and carefully curated to create a space that would feel timeless and classy, warm and welcoming, and ultimately be their place of peace, a sanctuary of rest and connection.
And now they share it with you. Their hope is that you love it as much as they do and it blesses your holiday memories with a little extra joy. Bring your family, friends, and/or your photographer/client and capture this year's magic while there's still time!
Their refined space is available to rent for holiday and seasonal photo sessions with additional vignettes and setups in the works for 2026.
